ARAMARK recently expanded its partnership with the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world's premier culinary college, to increase its culinary talent through the CIA's prestigious ProChef Certification program. 40 chefs from ARAMARK Higher Education will complete the program, which began in 2008 with ARAMARK's Sports & Entertainment business. Employees from ARAMARK and the Student Conservation Association (SCA) recently partnered to complete conservations service projects in nine cities across the country to celebrate 40 years of Earth Day. The events, which were held at urban parks and green spaces in Boston, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Washington D.C, included habitat and riparian restoration, tree planting, trail building and maintenance. When the evening meal at Colonnades is over and students leave, employees gather all the food that students did not eat and throw it out. Campus Kitchen, a new student organization coming to Elon University this fall, plans to reduce food waste on campus by packaging the extra food into meals for the homeless and less fortunate in the community. Wesley College students rose to the occasion to offer financial assistance to Haiti with the help of Aramark Food services! They were offered the chance to forgo a meal in Dulany Hall and donate the cost to Haiti relief. Over a two day period in January, a total of 248 students gave by fasting 342 cafeteria meals. On January 19th, Nearly 100 ARAMARK employees, friends and family participated in the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service event at Temple University's Liacorous Center. More than 100 ARAMARK employee volunteers in the greater Charlotte region participated in a day of service, refurbishing the Salvation Army's Center of Hope, located at 534 Spratt Street, near uptown Charlotte. As part of the community service day, ARAMARK volunteers transformed an empty plot of land into a garden retreat by creating a garden walkway, replanting the area, building benches and picnic tables and reseeding grassless areas.
