Finding a Chemical-Free Cleaning Technology

ARAMARK recently partnered with the Tennant Company to develop an environmentally-safe light industrial scrubber that relies solely on electrically charged water to clean facilities such as universities, hospital, and large office complexes.

ARAMARK, a company focused on minimizing its carbon footprint and offering practical solutions to its clients to help them reduce their environmental impact, was delighted to partner with their supplier Tennant in the creation of this innovative product. Tennant, a recognized leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing solutions that help create a cleaner, safer world, reached out to ARAMARK's Gordon Buntrock, Director of Operations for Environmental Services of ARAMARK Healthcare, and Craig Arnold Director of Systems Development & Technical Support, ARAMARK Education Facility Services, in 2007 to assist in the refining of the technology, called ec-H2O.

The ec-H2O, which eliminates the environmental impact of producing, using and disposing of traditional cleaning chemicals, performs the same job as a chemical detergent, but uses only water. Not only is ec-H2O an environmentally-sensitive scrubber, but one that enhances user safety, by reducing interaction with chemicals and reducing slip and fall incidents. Additionally, it leaves no residual, eliminates the need to purchase cleaning agents and cuts the time required for chemical handling, mixing and usage.

"The ec-H2O technology takes us beyond the "green movement" to a true concern and interest for the environment. ARAMARK, as an innovator, is pleased to work with our manufacturing suppliers to develop and test these new technologies," said Buntrock.

Tennant's Senior Product and Business Development Manager, Scott Keller, added that ARAMARK played a significant role in the honing and testing of the electrically-activated water innovation, which was first tested by ARAMARK's Education and Healthcare lines of business prior to making the product available to a wider market.

"ARAMARK served as an important partner in offering counsel to Tennant in the final development stages of ec-H2O," said Keller. "We have worked with ARAMARK in the past and appreciate their expertise in the industry."
