Students Bring Farmer's Market Comes to Campus

Students Bring Farmer's Market to Campus

When students in the Brandeis University Greening class wanted to focus their class project on sustainability and bringing more local produce to campus, ARAMARK was happy to help. Now, thanks to their efforts, Brandeis has an on-campus farmer's market. Better yet, 100% of the market's proceeds are being "recycled" back into the innovative Greening class

The Brandeis Greening class, university administration and ARAMARK are collaborating to provide local fresh fruits, vegetables and baked items to the student body and the Waltham community.

When Dining Services was asked to participate, they enthusiastically joined. Dining Services has a long standing relationship with the Brandeis Greening class. To do their part, Dining Services offered fresh home-made baked breads and challahs from the campus bakery. They also committed to donate 100% of the proceeds to the Greening class project. The market was held in the gym parking lot for a Sunday in October and one in November.

The Dining Services' booth was manned by their student sustainability champion. A total of $205 was raised and was given to the Greening class for ongoing and future environmental sustainability projects and greening efforts on campus. This is just one more way Brandeis Dining Services is helping campuses thrive.
